They City Cemetery dates back to 1849 and is the resting place of many remarkable Californians. The Bradfords in the pioneer section of the Cemetery are descendants of Governor Bradford of the Mayflower. They became some of the first viticulturists in the Galt/Elk Grove area, operating the Bradford Winery, north of Twin Cities Road. Bruceville Road is named after Mary F. nee Bruce) Bradford. Philip Bradford’s son, Hugh Bradford was a Sacramento Assemblyman (1913-1915 and District Attorney 1915-1923. His wife, Mary Beatrice Bannon, was the National PTA president and the granddaughter of Patrick Bannon, Sacramento pioneer. (Bannon slough, Bannon Island at Discovery Park).
