Groupon (click here) is a discount site that offers a daily deal, somewhat along the lines of a daily coupon. The only catch is that there has to be enough people participating for it to happen. Group + coupon = Groupon.

For example, today’s deal is, basically, 51% off at 4th Street Grill, located at 400 L Street in downtown Sacramento. More specifically, you pay $17 and get a voucher valued at $35. As of this posting there are 238 buyers and the tipping point for the deal to be on was 25.

Obviously, the buyer gets a nice discounted meal, massage, etc., but what’s in it for the business? Groupon harnesses the buying power of the many and provides many new customers – i.e. 4th Street Grill now has 238 (at this time) new customers.
