To celebrate this cultural and ethnic fusion, a spectacular feast of dance and live musical performances featuring world class talent, takes place Sunday, October 2nd at the 4th annaul World Music & Dance Festival in Old Sacramento.

Sunday, October 2nd, 10am – 5pm, with a bonus performance on Saturday, October 1st beginning at 6pm.

• Stroll Old Sacramento and watch live world class music and dance performances on several stages throughout the venue.
• Step into The Global Village – of educational and interactive experience that teaches children and families about our region’s cultures through hands-on experiences (craft and art activities, dance clinics, and musical instruments).
• Rest your feet a minute in the Old Eagle Theater while you hear stories, poetry, and talks geared toward youth audiences.
• Learn from culinary exerts as they cook with “Spices from Around the World.”

There are no street closures and local restaurants will be open to the public.

BONUS: The kick-off begins Saturday night, October 1st with a musical and visual extravaganza that will thrill and delight you with its color, energy and modern cultural explosion of East Indian dance and music on the Festival’s main stage in Old Sacramento.

Wings Over Wine Country Air Show Event Poster (Click for larger version)

If you’re looking for a fun filled event, that promises to be an great time for people of all ages, why not check out the 2011 Wings Over Wine Country Air Show on August 20th and 21st at the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, Ca.

This year’s show has a star studded line up consisting of The F/A-18 F Hornet, The C-17, Canadian Favorite “Team Rocket” and much, much more. The 2011 air show will no doubt be an unforgettable experience for all who attend with many opportunities to see some of the best aviation acts in the nation.

Shriners Hospitals Fundraiser To Include “Shoot For A Car” And “Slam Dunk Contest” At RoundRock 3on3 Basketball Tournament

On June 11th Rocklin based RoundRock 3on3 will be hosting its first annual “Shoot For Shriners” fundraising event on the streets of Downtown Sacramento. RoundRock 3on3 attendees and players can pay to enter a variety of contests, culminating in the “Shoot For A Car” event held on Saturday evening. All proceeds from contests held for “Shoot For Shriners” will go to Shriners Hospitals for Children®.

Shoot For A Car

Tickets will be sold throughout the event for $1 each for a chance to win a free 2-year lease of a vehicle from Kuni Motors of Sacramento. At the end of the tournament, 2 contestants will be selected to play. This contest provides eligible contestants the opportunity to shoot a series of increasingly more difficult baskets – starting with a lay up and then ending with a 1/2 court shot – in 24 seconds. If all of the baskets are made, the contestant will win a free 2 year leased vehicle.

Slam Dunk Contest

US Cryotherapy in Roseville (a new cold-air treatment center for faster recovery and better health featuring a whole-body walk-in chamber and a localized body-part cold air device) will be the premier sponsor of the Shriner’s Slam Dunk Contest. For a $5 entry fee, players will be able to display their 3 best slam dunks. The winner will be receiving a US Cryotherapy Diamond Treatment package – one month’s worth of Whole-body/Localized cold treatments and six hours in their warm water Hydro-Massage bed. The Slam Dunk preliminary rounds will be held throughout the day with the Finals held on Saturday evening prior to the “Shoot For A Car” event.

The Event

RoundRock 3on3 is an outdoor basketball tournament that will be played on Capitol Mall and other streets in Downtown Sacramento, Saturday June 11th. Team registrations will be held on Friday evening, 6/10 from 4:00 – 9:00 PM at the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza. Games start at 8:00 am Saturday morning and end at 8:00 pm. There will be players of all ages/ability with Youth, High School, Adult and Mixed division teams competing for bracket and division level championships.

Each Friday there are two shows at 8:00 or 10:30. There is a two item minimum in the showroom and due to limited seating, reservations are encouraged. For more information or to make a reservation please call 916-446-8128.

The 2 item minimum does still apply which can be anything from our bar (Alcoholic or Non-Alcoholic) or kitchen (Food or Dessert items). Seats are limited and we will “sell out” so make your reservations early!!

Portraits of ordinary women, which include the healing art that helped them through difficult changes in their lives will open at Tangent Gallery, 2900 Franklin Blvd. (at 4th Ave.) in Sacramento, 2nd Saturday, June 12th from 6 to 10 pm.  The gallery is also open on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm or by appointment (tangentgallery@gmail.com).  The women are all students at the Women’s Wisdom Art Project, a program of Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.  Sacramento digital artist and photographer Ann Tracy recruited Woodland photographer George Streng to work on this project with her.  Tracy and Streng wanted to go beyond the standard editorial portrait to create a post modern type of portraiture that includes art work created by the women to celebrate their journeys to increase their self-esteem and give them a sense of pride in themselves and what they have accomplished.

Tangent is an artist-run gallery/studio space established June of 2007.   Its mission is to exhibit dynamic and compelling contemporary art, by both local artists and artists from afar, specifically art that may not be showcased in other Sacramento galleries. Tangent strives to serve the community of Sacramento exposing the art-viewing public to new ideas, mediums and forms while bringing something unique and positive to the neighborhoods of Curtis Park and Oak Park while attracting new visitors to the area.

Women’s Wisdom Project offers a variety of art experiences for women who want to broaden their creative lives.  Designed as a uniquely feminine environment that supports the artistic and personal growth of women in all stages of life, Women’s Wisdom Project believes that artistic exploration naturally brings greater self-knowledge. Classes, which include lunch, are free and taught by professional artists. They include drawing, textiles, clay, mixed media, poetry, gourd crafting, creative writing, and painting with acrylics and water color.

The Women’s Wisdom Project offers a safe, nurturing environment for women of all backgrounds. Through the support of SFBFS staff, volunteers, and other students (each other), women are introduced to art and its healing properties. Thus, women realize their true potentials and learn the importance of imagination, control, patience and emotional discipline. Women working together in an informal setting provide a warm comfortable place for artistic exploration. All women who wish to participate are welcome.

The Sylvia Besana Annual Holiday Parade follows at 10 a.m. through downtown Roseville. The route begins at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Douglas Boulevard and Vernon Street, proceeding down Vernon Street and ending at the back of Roseville Square shopping center.
